Margaret Riley freebie projects inspiration

Hi. I'm Mark LaFerney from Every Monday, I post a new DIY project there. I'm thrilled to share this easy and affordable Halloween craft with you.

  • Coffee cans
  • Standard size translucent marbles
  • Acrylic craft paints in black, orange, white and green
  • Paint brushes
  • Drill with 5/8" spade drill bit
  • Industrial strength adhesive
  • Pencil
  • Battery operated flicker flames
  1. Paint the outside of each coffee can in the appropriate base color.
  2. Determine eye hole placement and carefully drill two holes using the 5/8" spade drill bit.
  3. Use a pencil to sketch faces.
  4. Paint the face features and add fun details.
  5. Apply industrial strength adhesive around the edge of the eye socket and insert marbles.

These luminaries look spooktacular when illuminated with a battery operated flicker flame. They are sure to delight trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.

A fun side-note: Our wonderful blog editor, Margaret Riley, was once featured on the cover of Crafting Traditions Magazine for her charming luminaries! There are still some copies out there, or there might be one in your stash... She's so talented!! ~Laura
