OLD TO NEW, ANTIQUE TO REPURPOSE, TECHNIQUES TO FINISHING
By Margaret Riley
Tired of the furniture in any or all the rooms in your house? Now is the time to think about redoing some of those that are looking well used, plus make use of the outdoors where dust and paint can fly without damaging any interior surfaces. Turn something old into new, an antique becomes repurposed, and techniques give you a great finish!
I contacted DecoArt in this issue to help us out in knowing about their products in a “re-do” of furniture. The first project is a vintage dresser update by Regina Davis, where she used the Americana Décor Chalky Finish Paint, Americana Décor Crème Waxes and Stencils, and lastly, DecoArt Extreme Sheen. How clever of her to use a dresser missing some drawers as seen in this DecoArt website:
In this next project, DecoArt shared with us a dresser that shows the before and after photos. I love the gradual change of colors from drawer-to-drawer. Instead of using one handle, Brittany Merth used two crystal drawer knobs on each side of the drawer, which adds elegance to an old dresser with a new color. Only Americana Décor Chalky Finish Paint and Varnishes were used in this project as seen on this DecoArt website:
We all need storage cabinets and DecoArt has graciously allowed us to share this refurbished storage cabinet with all of you. And even better, you get complete instructions and the pattern to go with it! Just click on the icons to print out the pattern. DecoArt’s design team used the Americana Décor Chalky Finish Paints that are so “in” for today’s home décor colors! The design on the door is a folk-art design that can blend into any design, but really accents the farmhouse rage right now. Check out this quaint storage cabinet at:
DecoArt’s design team has been busy refinishing a lot of furniture, and this television stand make-over will surely inspire you to see what you can do with any piece of furniture that needs a new look. It is easy to use the Americana Décor Chalky Finish on almost any surface. Wait, don’t go out that door to the nearest yard sale yet! Check out the finished project at this website and have a great time figuring out what furniture you want to use this make-over look on:
Best of luck in your make-over. Post below this article some of your refurbished projects. I know all our subscribers will enjoy seeing what can be done with a brush, paint, and a little love! Your before and after photos would be fabulous, too!
